Adelaide Strikers preview

BEST XI

Craig Simmons ($81,500/85k)

Travis Head ($36,000/70k)

Brad Hodge ($61,100/100k)

Kieron Pollard ($98,600/100k)

Alex Ross ($36,000/55k)

Johan Botha ($58,300/70k)

Tim Ludeman ($41,500/55k)

Kane Richardson ($57,800/85k)

Adam Zampa ($36,000/70k)

Ben Laughlin ($78,700/85k)

Shaun Tait ($56,400/85k)

– It looks like two of Head/Ross/Dean will get a good look at BBL04. Head and Ross were fixtures of the SA Matador Cup team (averages of 29 and 35 respectively) but the big-hitting Dean was the preferred option for the Strikers at times last season.

– Zampa could easily be replaced by Holland if he struggles. It’s unlikely we’ll see both of them in the same team with Botha already there.

– Tait is no longer a lock. Gary Putland’s a very skilled bowler and would be unlucky to miss out. In reality, both are very injury prone so we’ll probably see them managed throughout the tournament.

– The above team has five genuine bowlers plus Pollard. If a bowler has a bad initial one or two overs, they might not get another chance.

– Tim Ludeman was very successful as an opener in BBL02. He could potentially take on that role once again instead of Head.

REMAINING SQUAD

International: Ryan ten Doeschate

Batsmen: Jono Dean

All-Rounders: Trent Lawford

Bowlers: Gary Putland, Jon Holland, Chadd Sayers, Hamish Kingston

INTERNATIONAL AVAILABILITY

– Ryan ten Doeschate will replace Kieron Pollard, most likely after round 4. Both are batting all-rounders so it’s unlikely to have an effect on the rest of the XI.

– Kane Richardson is some chance of being selected for the Australian ODI series, beginning on January 16th. He would likely miss the Strikers’ 2nd game of round 7 which is scheduled for January 14.

FIXTURE ANALYSIS

Bye: Round 6

Double: Round 7

Not much to worry about here. Be careful not to overload on Strikers early but if someone’s a must have at the start, pick them.
