BBL04 bargains (both competitions)

What better way to kick things off than a look at some options who are available cheap in both Big Bash Fantasy and Fox Sports.

JAMES PEIRSEN (40k/$32,000, WK) – Chris Hartley’s departure leaves Peirson as the only specialist keeper on the Heat squad. May not bat high up the order but he should play unless they choose a stopgap option instead. He was impressive in the Matador Cup and looks a promising player.

JOE MENNIE (40k/$36,000, BWL) – As things stand, the likely Hurricanes bowling attack is Hilfenhaus (70k), Mennie, Sammy (85k), Boyce (85k) and Doherty (85k). Sam Rainbird (70k) could potentially be preferred over Mennie but there’s also the chance that either Boyce or Doherty is left out due to a reluctance to play two spinners. Mennie is also more than capable with the bat.

TIM LUDEMAN (55k/$41,500, WK) – Probably not worthwhile if he’s batting down the order but in BBL02 we saw what he was capable of as a top order batsman where he averaged 31 at a strike rate of 132. Keep an eye on the Strikers’ batting order.

JOEL PARIS (55k/$32,000, BWL) – Impressive in the Matador Cup before injury, Paris should do well when given the chance. Unfortunately for him he’s currently injured and may have some work ahead of him to get into a bowling attack which boasts names such as Coulter-Nile, Behrendorff, Arafat, Hogg, Muirhead and Agar.

AIDAN BLIZZARD (55k/$41,500, BAT) & KURTIS PATTERSON (55k/$36,000, BAT) – The two most likely Thunder batsmen to occupy positions 5 and 6 in the lineup after Kallis, Khawaja, Hussey and Morgan. Daniel Hughes (25k), Cameron Borgas (55k) and 17-year-old wonderkid Jake Doran (40k) are other options.

NATHAN HAURITZ (55k/$41,500, BWL) – Rarely utilised on the fast bowler friendly GABBA for the Heat, Hauritz will be far better suited to the Thunder and is the only specialist spinner in their squad currently.

Stay tuned for a couple of follow up articles where we look at some bargains who only come cheap in one of the two competitions.
